Google Dominates 67 Percent of Search

Google Dominates 67 Percent of Search

Figures released by comScore yesterday show the latest search market share data. As you’d expect, Google dominates the lion’s share with a huge 67% - a slight increase from last month. The data also highlighted that Bing’s share is just shy of 18 percent, while Yahoo! has dropped 0.1% from last year to a lowly 11.3% of market shares. So while Google’s share has remained pretty steady, the other two popular search engines have fluctuated slightly, though in comparison to the figures from when the Search Alliance was first announced four years ago Yahoo! and Bing have essentially switched places. In 2009, Yahoo! had 19.3% of the market and Bing had 9.8%.

Don’t Forget About the Other Search Engines Besides Google...

Google, Bing, YahooThe figures do serve as a reminder that there are alternative search engines to Google, which many people seem to forget with the company’s seemingly endless growth. It’s essential to remember this when it comes to online marketing too; though most people do use Google, there are plenty of people that don’t so you need to ensure your strategies take all the search engines into account. Bing and Yahoo! for example, do use meta keywords to help identify the most relevant search results, while Google has other algorithms in place. So while Google guidelines are the main ones to follow, it’s important not to forget about the other search engines in the process.
