Our Online Marketing Team Investigate Social Sign Ins

There’s no doubt you’re familiar with social sign ins. Almost every app or game you download requires you to create an account, and to save you the trouble of remembering yet another username and password there’s an easy alternative: sign in through social media!

Many Apps and Games Can Be Accessed with Social Media

facebook_logoThe usual suspects are Facebook, Google+, Twitter and more, and logging in through these mediums gives online marketers a perfect opportunity to gain an insight into a user’s activity on a network. One of the main reasons that people shy away from this type of login is the privacy issues associated with it, though on the other hand, there are plenty of people that couldn’t care less about internet privacy! As you’d expect, Facebook is the most popular social network used to login to games and apps, and has been so since the statistics began in the last quarter of 2011. However, what is surprising is the speed with which Google is catching up: in the first quarter of 2013 34% of users logged in with Google and 46% logged in through Facebook – in contrast to the third quarter of 2012 where 54% used Facebook and just 25% used Google. That’s an increase of almost 10% in just 6 months! Though Facebook is still the most popular social network, it’s reputation as the reigning champion of social media seems to be slipping as close competitors Twitter and Google up the competition. Will there come a time when Facebook loses its title as the leading social network? The company hasn’t had the most successful few months – through their own mistakes – and this seems to be having a knock on effect on the popularity of the site.
