Social Networking Site Twitter Reaches the 100 Million Mark
It was revealed this week that the Social Networking site Twitter has fulfilled the remarkable achievement of registering over 100 million active users. As a Social Media Tool, Twitter are second to only, the online phenomenon that is Facebook, quite a feat, so now that they have firmly established themselves within the Social Media market, what is the next step for Twitter...?? It looks as though they are now looking to follow in the footsteps of Facebook and use their popularity to their advantage by looking into the Social media Marketing avenue. Will it be a Worthwhile Venture to expand their Marketing Options....??? With the amount of users that are visiting and signing into Twitter, every single day, surely it would just be the next natural step for Twitter to start reaping the benefits of so many users by following the path of Facebook and reap the rewards of its popularity by introducing paying adverts...??? People sign in to Twitter for a way of interacting with people, because its enjoyable, but it also assists you in being able to actively market your own products or services as a business, people must remember that the people behind Twitter, have set this up as a marketing venture and they are always looking to increase their own revenue. A member of the Twitter team Dick Costolo quoted in regards to Twitter expanding their advertising options: "It's our firm belief that our advertising platform is the only revenue component that we need to have in the market in order to be a huge independent business." So as a Twitter user and a consumer, do the majority of users feel that this would be a good idea..?? There seems to be mixed opinions, as there was when Facebook decided to go ahead and increase their internet marketing options through Facebook. One major and obvious benefit, is that users may come across a service or a product via Twitter, that the user may have been unaware of if it hadn't appeared on Twitter. So on this particular occasion it is quite obviously beneficial for all parties involved, Twitter, the company advertising and the user all benefit from the Twitter advert. However on the flip side, if people keep tweeting about new business ventures and special offers, to those who it doesn't interest they may perceive this as spam and it may just be regarded as more of hindrance than a benefit for some people. So it seems to be finding that fine line in between, but is there one....??? Taking Advantage of The Audience Available The overall consensus seems to be that, that this issue is not going to go away and the founders of Twitter have purposely attracted many a user to use to their social networking site so that they can also benefit from the situation, so it seems to be that overall everybody is a winner in some format, doesn't it...??? People are benefiting from using it as a social networking site, businesses are benefiting from the extra revenue and online presence and massive audience that it puts you in front of, whilst the Twitter team are benefiting from offering advertising space that they are on the second biggest Social Networking site in the world. So it seems that not only is Twitter good for your business, its also a great way to meet new people.
