What Will Facebook's Press Event Reveal?
Every week or so we're subjected to new rumours regarding Facebook! They're either about to start making us pay for their services, making our profiles visible to the entire world or shutting down completely, but with a mysterious event scheduled for January 15th - what can we really expect from the social networking giants? Of course, rumours are rife and there have been several ideas floating around cyberspace. The most popular is the 'Facebook phone'. While details of the event have been withheld, phrases such as ‘big deal’ and ‘mobile’ are adding to the speculation. Facebook's invite to the event (pictured left) also hints that there could be a new product in store 'come and see what we're building' certainly gives credibility to the rumour and would lead them further into the world of mobile domination. Although Facebook have always denied plans to build a phone, reports from late 2011 suggest that they could have started making plans with a project codenamed 'Buffy'. Rumoured to be built around the Android ecosystems, Facebook reportedly approached HTC to discuss the project further. There have also been rumours about a Facebook browser or lightweight OS, a dating site, a gaming network, a re-design and even a Google takeover. In other words, anything that might extend the Facebook reach further. One thing is clear however, this must be a significant announcement. Facebook do not normally hold major press conferences at their headquarters so whatever it is they want to show us must be pretty important. We can't wait!
